Our Cardiologists

Dr Loretta Carr

BSc, MBBS (Hons), FRACP

Level B, CTCA Accredited Specialist

Loretta is a clinical cardiologist with expertise in cardiac imaging, which includes echocardiography, stress echocardiography and CT Coronary Angiography.

Loretta is a country girl, having grown up in Yarraman and completed her secondary schooling in Toowoomba. She was awarded a Bachelor of Science from the University of Southern Queensland with distinction and graduated from the University of Queensland with a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery with honours. Her junior doctor years were spent at the Toowoomba Hospital before embarking upon advanced cardiology training at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and Princess Alexandra Hospital. She subsequently completed a two-year cardiac imaging fellowship in echocardiography (transthoracic, exercise stress echo, Dobutamine stress echo, trans-oesophageal echo), CT Coronary Angiography and Cardiac MRI before returning home to Toowoomba.

Loretta has been working in private practice in Toowoomba since 2017 and holds a part-time position as a Senior Staff Cardiologist at the Toowoomba Hospital. She enjoys teaching medical students in her position as Senior Lecturer for the University of Queensland Rural Clinical School.

When not at the hospital, Loretta is kept busy with her three children and their various sporting and musical commitments.

Dr Sam Fogarty

Level B, CTCA Accredited Specialist

Sam is a clinical cardiologist with speciality interest in cardiac imaging, including echocardiography, stress echocardiography, transoesophageal echo and CT Coronary Angiography.

Sam is excited to have settled back in Toowoomba after growing up here. Sam previously worked as a pharmacist in Toowoomba before completing medical school at the University of Queensland. He undertook his resident and basic physician training at Toowoomba Hospital before relocating to Brisbane for advanced training in Cardiology, spending time at Princess Alexandra and the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospitals.

Following the completion of his Cardiology training, Sam undertook a two-year multimodal cardiac imaging fellowship at Royal Melbourne Hospital encompassing echocardiography, cardiac CT and MRI, with a strong focus on congenital cardiac diseases. Sam subsequently completed a further 12-month echocardiography fellowship locally.

In addition to consulting at Heart Specialists Toowoomba, Sam maintains a part-time appointment as a Staff Specialist Cardiologist at Toowoomba Hospital, as well as Senior Lecturer status with the University of Queensland.

When not at the hospital, you are likely to find Sam running around after his two children, or out on the golf course.
